Moran Prizes

Doug Moran National Portrait Prize

Currently there are no future planned dates for the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize.  Any announcements will be made on this website.

As passionate supporters of the arts, Doug and Greta Moran AO were keen to create a pathway for artists striving to achieve success and recognition in portraiture.  In 1988 the Doug Moran National Portrait Prize (DMNPP), an Australian portrait painting prize supporting Australian artists, was established.

The prize encourages both excellence and creativity in contemporary Australian portraiture by asking artists to interpret the look and personality of a chosen sitter, either unknown or well known.

It is Australia’s richest portrait prize.

The Moran Prizes are acquisitive and the winning artworks immediately become the property of the Moran Arts Foundation, to be held and exhibited as part of the Moran Collection.
